Cowlitz County Fire District #5 is a combination fire and emergency medical services department operating from three stations located in the Kalama area. We respond to mitigate over 700 emergency incidents annually in a 36 square mile area of South Central Cowlitz County and serve a population of just over 5,000 residents with a large industrial community.
Our department provides the following services: fire control and prevention services, public education, advanced life support emergency medical services, vehicular rescue, marine fire control and rescue, and technical rescue to include confined space and rope rescue.
Our fire and EMS operations are entirely self sufficient through tax revenues and user fees and operate without special levies or bond issues. The department has approximately 26 volunteers, 7 part-time FF/paramedics, 3 staff FF/EMT's, 3 staff FF/paramedics, 1 staff Administrative Secretary, 1 staff Deputy Chief, and 1 staff Chief. We currently operate three class 1 fire engines, one medium rescue, two tenders, two advanced life support ambulances, two brush engines, one fire boat, one support vehicle, and two command units. Fire personnel are trained at either the Washington State Firefighter Basic or Firefighter I level. We are licensed by the State of Washington as an advanced life support trauma verified service.
